S-LITTER
Zarabis S-litter was born the 17th of December 2017. The litter has 2 males and 6 bitches. The colours were red/fawn sable, black&tan and cream. At the mating the 16th of October Iorek and Pilvi clearly liked each other. The moment was right and the day was bright. According to the ultrasound 13th of November we expected at least four puppies, but röntgen five days before the birth revealed the real number of puppies.

The mother of the litter is our four years old Zarabis Qesarah "Pilvi" and the father is five years old Swedish male Dhawati Uday Karam "Iorek" owned by Martina and Siv Lagerbäck and bred by Katarina Widström. When I (=Jari) was judging at the inofficial show of Salukiringen (the Swedish Saluki Club) in Söderhamn year 2013 my BB-2 was Iorek's mother and BB-3 became the aunt of Iorek. No wonder where we are now. Iorek has one previous litter with Husniya Har Kala Rachi. Husniya's owner Cathrin Nilsson is also the owner of Barakisch Rahim Behzad, the father of our P-litter.

Iorek is Swedish, Danish, Norwegian which means Nordic and also Finnish and Latvian show champion, Swedish lure coursing and also blood tracking champion. Pilvi is Finnish show and lure coursing champion. Iorek is of an average size and Pilvi is slightly above the average.
You will find the pedigree of the litter at the Saluki Archive. The closest joint ancestors lead to the Swedish Ibinores Z-litter at the level of 6th generation. At the 5th generation Iorek has an ancestor from Saudi Arabia and Pilvi from Iran. At the 12th generation the total impact of the salukis from the countries of origin is about 20%, if we forget the original imports to the Western world. The 8 generation inbreeding-% of the litter is 0,29% and the total inbreeding of all known ancestors is only 8,7%. The Finnish and Swedish average is around 20%, it means a cousin level. The total amount of foundation ancestors for the litter is 60 separate known salukis. Iorek's father line leads to Malik-el-Zobair (Iraq 1919) and Pilvi's leads to Sahand von Iransamin (Iran early 90'ies). Both Iorek and Pilvi have as their ancestral foundation mother Hoshah el Bahrein (Bahrein 1922).

Both Iorek and Pilvi have fresh results from heart scanning and eye mirroring and they both are free from hereditary heart and eye diseases. Pilvi's thyroid and blood test show that Pilvi doesn't carry a thyroid disease and Pilvi's blood values are also otherwise excellent. Pilvi's DLA haplotype in heterozygous. Both Iorek and Pilvi have been tested free from known hereditary dog diseases by MyDogDNA.

The summany below explains the colour genes of Iorek and Pilvi. Part of the colour genes are gene tested (MyDogDNA) and the rest are assumptions. The colour inheritance should be very simple, Iorek and Pilvi are able to have red maybe also cream, black&tan/fawn/silver or grizzle puppies most likely with Irish white markings. Golden is not possible and not either the more rare colour types of the Saluki breed.
